How to configure an SD card to set up Direct to Player service on Humanware devices

Overview

This tutorial will outline how to prepare an SD card for configuring all internet-capable players from Humanware for use with CELA’s Direct to Player service. These are: Stratus4 M, 12 M, Victor Stream 2nd and 3rd generation.

This process requires storing configuration files on an SD card. These configurations will then be imported on the player, allowing it to connect to your Wi-Fi network and to your CELA account. Our Contact Centre can also configure the SD card for you and send it by mail. For this option, fill out the Direct to Player configuration form.

All Humanware players, excepting the Stratus4 M, can also be configured directly on the player, without using an SD card. Consult the device specific documentation or reach out to CELA’s Contact Centre for more information.

  • Direct to Player on Victor Stream 3

This process involves using a Windows-based computer program called Humanware Companion. If you use a Mac computer or cannot use Humanware Companion for any other reason, please get in touch with us to find out about other options for configuring your device.

Preparing SD card using the Humanware Companion software

The Humanware Companion software is a free, accessible Windows-based computer program that allows you to perform tasks such as configuring your player and transferring content from your computer.

  • It is compatible with Windows
  • It is designed for use with all the most common Windows screen readers such as JAWS and NVDA. Note that the commands given below will work with either the JAWS or NVDA screen reader but not Narrator.

Download and install the software from the Humanware Companion software product page. This page also contains additional documentation and tutorials for using Humanware Companion.

Exporting Wi-Fi configuration to SD card using Humanware Companion

  1. Connect the SD card to your computer. You may need an external SD card reader if your computer does not include one.
  2. Launch the Humanware Companion software.
  3. On first run of the software, go to the Tools menu and select Options. Or, using keyboard shortcuts, press Alt+L and then O.
  4. Go to the “Change device” field, (using a keyboard, press Tab) and select the appropriate device model.
  5. Select OK or press Enter.
  6. Go to Tools menu and select Wi-Fi configuration. Using keyboard shortcuts, press Alt+L then W.
  7. Enter the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and the Wi-Fi password in appropriate fields, and select OK or press Enter. Note that both SSID and password are case sensitive.
  8. A confirmation screen will appear, indicating that your Wi-Fi information has been successfully exported (or copied) onto the player's SD card.
  9. Select OK or press Enter to dismiss this message, then press Escape to return to the main screen.
