Summary
J.A.D. McCurdy became one of Canada's aviation pioneers for his design of a biplane called the Silver Dart. This book recounts his experiments with kites and planes and his 1909 landmark flight above the ice of the Bras d'Or. Although… it crashed six months later, the Silver Dart's engine rests in the National Aviation Museum today, a reminder of the first person to fly out of sight of land. Grades 4-7. 1998.
